Find Inspiration at Career’s Day 2016

11 October 2015

Careers day

by Alison Gibson

In February, UCL Eastman Dental Institute and the British Dental Association will host their annual Career’s Day.

The event will offer information, advice and insight to foundation dentists, the newly qualified, those undergoing further postgraduate training and all dentists wishing to learn about the career opportunities available to them.

Over six hours, delegates at Career’s Day will have the opportunity to attend a packed programme of events and earn verifiable CPD. As one of Europe’s leading postgraduate dental centres, UCL Eastman Dental Institute is committed to furthering the career options of dental practitioners and Career’s Day gives us the chance to advise delegates, both one-on-one at our stand and during the talks given by our lecturers, about the opportunities available through both our postgraduate education programmes and short CPD courses.

UCL Eastman Dental Institute has several specialists speaking, including Dr Pranay Sharma – Programme Director for the Removable Prosthodontic Programme and Senior Clinical Lecturer in Prosthodontics and Implant Dentistry at the Eastman. He lectures extensively in the UK, both at local and national level and internationally, and is an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Dr Sharma will be drawing on his expertise and personal experience to give advice about careers in specialist practice.

Dr Susan Parekh who is a Clinical Lecturer in Paediatric Dentistry will also be speaking. Dr Parekh is Programme Coordinator for the DDent in Paediatric Dentistry and Programme Director for the Postgraduate Certificate in Paediatric Dentistry at UCL Eastman Dental Institute. Dr Parekh will use her extensive expertise and experience to speak about academic roles in paediatric dentistry,.

Dr Sharma and Dr Parekh are just two of the many speakers who will be giving specific, insightful advice based on their own experiences. The Institute will also have a presence throughout the day, with lecturers and administrators on hand to provide information and give advice about your educational options for the future. At several points throughout the day, you will also have the chance to attend the extremely popular CV clinic and to work on your interview skills.

Whether you are studying or recently graduated and are wondering where to go next, come along and speak to a number of professionals and potential employers about the different avenues open to you. Or, if you have been in practice for some time and are interested in changing direction, you may find it useful to see the range of possibilities available for experienced dentists.
