Course Content

Aims and objectives

The course aims to give the valuable experience of testing participants’ practical and time-management skills under the pressure of examination conditions. The afternoon session allows participants to practice in well-equipped, state-of-the-art skills laboratories and receive specific feedback from experienced staff

Anticipated outcomes

After attending this course, participants should be able to assess in which areas they need to improve and reinforce their practice at home before sitting the ORE Part 2 Dental Manikin examination.

Quality controls

All teachers on the Institute's courses are experienced professionals. All participants are asked to submit written feedback via a questionnaire at the end of the course, which is used to monitor the course's quality of teaching and value for money.

Teaching and assessment

Practice under examination conditions, followed by feedback and further revision practice.

The course is delivered by experienced UCL Eastman Dental Institute staff and any feedback given represents their interpretation of the ORE syllabus and GDC regulations for the Dental Manikin examination.  They are not current ORE Examiners, and their opinions may not exactly replicate those of the ORE Examiners.

Content

Morning session: mock examination

  • Students undertake three of the twenty tasks prescribed for the ORE Part 2 Dental Manikin examination, under exam conditions.
  • As with the real examination, students are not given advance notice of which three tasks will be tested, and are expected to be proficient in all areas.

Afternoon session: feedback and practice

  • Students receive individual feedback on their performance in the mock examination.
  • Following the feedback, they are then free to practice any task(s) of their choosing.
