Dallas Roulston – Division of Microbial Diseases
ECPgR Student Committee and Student Representative to the ECPgR Steering Committee

I obtained my undergraduate degree (Medical Laboratory Techniques) from Queensland University of Technology, Australia in 2000 before working in a clinical microbiology laboratory in Brisbane. In 2003 I moved to the UK, working as a locum biomedical scientist in microbiology, biochemistry and multidisciplinary laboratories.

Dallas

In 2009 I graduated with an MSc. (Clinical Microbiology) from Queen Mary, University of London. My research dissertation investigated the implementation and use of MALDI-ToF MS in a clinical microbiology laboratory.

I am currently a PhD student at UCL Eastman Dental Institute. My current area of research is investigating the role of pH in the transition from oral health to dental caries. I aim to develop improved, accurate and reliable methods for the visualisation and mapping of pH microgradients within dental biofilm. The work includes the growth of biofilms using the constant depth film fermentor, analysis of various fluorescent sensors (dual fluorophore, ratiometric nanosensors and seminaphthorhodafluor (SNARF) dyes) and various imaging techniques (confocal laser scanning microscopy and fluorescence-lifetime imaging microscopy).

Enas Ewire –  Division of Microbial Diseases
ECPgR Student Committee and Student Representative to the ECPgR Steering Committee

I’m currently in my final year of PhD in Microbial Diseases – investigating antimicrobial resistance genetic determinants and their burden on the host. I joined the ECPgR student committee with the aim of providing support to the postgraduate students, and contributing to the scientific exchange opportunities and events that may help our professional development at the Eastman Dental Institute.

Abdullah

Abdullah Alsoghier – Department of oral medicine & diagnostic sciences
ECPgR Student Committee

I have completed my 6-year dental degree (BDS) from King Saud University (KSU), Saudi Arabia in 2011. Right after, I was trained in oral & maxillofacial surgery, oral medicine, and special care dentistry in the 12-months internship. In 2012, I have joined the dental faculty of KSU as a clinical teaching assistant of oral medicine, who is currently sponsoring me for postgraduate education at University Collage London (UCL).
I have started my oral medicine postgraduate training at the Eastman Dental Institute in 2014 (MSc) and I am continuing the journey to the 5-year PhD with clinical experience as well. My scientific interests lie in head & neck cancer early detection, therapy-induced oral manifestations, facial pain, evidence-based dentistry, as well as healthcare organisational change and innovation.

As member of ECPgR Student Committee, we are aiming to provide the support and facilitation for postgraduate student participation in various scientific activities and public engagement events at UCL.
