Indirect
demographic approach (convenience retrospective cohort) to study
mortality in Russia
This
project is led by Prof Marmot, University College London, UK.
This
project adopted methodology initially developed to estimate mortality
in countries with incomplete vital registration and low literacy.
This approach appears to be a good and cost-effective tool in studying
health impacts of rapid social change in populations with high numeracy
and literacy. It will allow us to reconstruct mortality trends for
Russian men and women for the past 25 years, to quantify the relation
of smoking, alcohol and poverty to mortality, as well as to study
mortality trends in different sub-groups. This would enable us to
identify sub-populations most vulnerable during the societal transformation.

of adult mortality in Russia
