Research in the IEPS is organized in groups centred on core intellectual concerns and linked to several inter-disciplinary research centres and institutes.  These groups reflect our research strategy of breadth and depth of engagement, spanning the entire Earth system from the atmosphere to the inner core, while emphasizing the importance of linkages with staff typically active across several groups

Research Strategy

Our research strategy is framed by our core aims of research excellence and the beneficial application of knowledge towards societal needs and the training of the next generation of scientists, and the institutional ethos of leadership, cross-disciplinarity, and impact in research.

The Institute has strong links to college-wide initiatives such as the UCL Institute for Origins, the UCL Grand Challenges and Birkbeck and UCL’s drives for widening participation.  Collaboration is extensive as evidenced by our joint appointments, publications, and multi-departmental research centres.
