Call for Participants: Early Modern semi-public libraries workshop

This half-day event aims to bring together researchers at all stages, from a range of settings, who work on Early Modern libraries that were in some form public. Apply by 30th June.

This half-day event aims to bring together researchers at all stages, from a range of settings, who work on Early Modern libraries that were in some form public. The event hopes to spark conversations and foster connections between participants, prioritising discussion alongside short traditional papers.

Topics may include, but are not limited to:

  • Studies of individual libraries such as school, town, ecclesiastical, institutional, and private libraries with a public element
  • The ways in which an early modern library could be public
  • Gifting books and building early modern semi-public libraries
  • Early modern public libraries and religious, intellectual, political, or civic cultures o Preservation of and access to early modern semi-public libraries today
  • Semi-public libraries as sources and methodologies for researching them
