Cross-disciplinary research to improve hearing health
16 September 2024
Obtaining a precise diagnosis of the cause of the hearing loss is vital when it changes the care or treatment options for the patient.
A team of EI and RNENT & EDH researchers have published an article in Audacity, the BSA online membership magazine, about two new cross-disciplinary hearing research projects that bring together national patient data to better understand the hearing genotype, phenotype and its correlations.
"Both the HEDGE - Hearing, Ear, and Deafness Genetics- patient repository and NIHR Hearing HIC - Health Informatics Collaborative-, show the breath of our hearing science expertise across UCL and UCLH, from clinical audiology and ENT to hearing genomics and data science. With these expanding large patient datasets we will be able to develop and test new hypotheses of causation and mechanisms of hearing loss as well as new and better treatments and pathways of care for our patients."
