Head and Neck Laryngology

This includes the study and treatment of benign and malignant head and neck diseases. Head and Neck research aims to investigate the mechanisms underlying cancers and benign lesions within the head and neck, in addition to the best methods of diagnosis and treatment. This research requires multidisciplinary investigations, involving laboratory sciences, medical oncology, radiotherapy and ENT surgery, as well as partnership with maxillo-facial, plastic, ophthalmic and neuro-surgeons.

Laryngology specifically focuses on the larynx, or voicebox - the organ in the neck responsible for voice production. Research in this area includes infections, reflux disease, benign tumours, and functional problems with voice and swallowing. Treatments can involve speech therapy, medication or surgery.
