About the UCL Ear Institute

Our mission: to understand hearing and fight deafness.

Our vision: to be the world’s leading centre for investigations into mechanisms of hearing and all forms of hearing loss and ENT-related disorders, their causes and their treatment.

We engage with academic, clinical and industrial partners in the UK and world-wide to promote discovery sciences, realise translational opportunities and transform the delivery of hearing health at a global level.

World leading academics and clinicians, working in fields as diverse as human genetics, biophysics, computational neuroscience, cell biology and human cognition, come together to create a genuinely collaborative research environment.

Since our creation, almost ten years ago, we have witnessed remarkable growth. Over the past three years alone we have received over £16m in research funding. Our excellence in research is reflected in REF 2014, placing UCL at the top of Clinical Medicine and Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience for research power and intensity. A recent bibliometric analysis by the RAND Corporation confirms we are producing the most influential research in the fields of ‘deafness and hearing problems’ and ‘audiology & speech language pathology’ in England.

Our education programmes are research led; after all, who better to learn from than the most influential researchers in the country? We offer four audiology-focussed MSc Programmes with a 100% graduate employability, and are combining forces with the Institute of Ophthalmology to deliver an exciting new MRes in Sensory Systems and Therapies.

With an established CPD portfolio, our life-learning courses designed for ENT clinicians and audiologists continue to inform and develop the future leaders in their field.
