Answer

The use of this term underlines the pro-Dutch disposition of Vuylsteke. He was a firm believer in a standardized, common language and in closer cultural contact between the Netherlands and Flanders. Nevertheless, his pro-Dutch Flamingantism coninued to be framed within a Belgian national consciousness. Vuylsteke was a Belgian patriot who did not hunger for a re-unification of North (the Netherlands) and South (Flanders). Like most supporters of the Flemish Movement in the era before 1914, Vuylsteke combined Flamingantism with Belgian patriotism.
