##Guido Gezelle:
priest, teacher, linguist, poet and journalist (1830-1899). Gezelle is the most famous Flemish practitioner of #religious naturalistic poetry. He associated Flamingantism and the defence of the vernacular – and, more particularly, the defence of the regional dialect of West Flanders – with the restoration of a militant Catholicism. His verses exerted great influence on those educated at the Catholic colleges in West Flanders and later generations of Catholic intellectuals in Flanders.
