Answer

A central part of his argument was the creation of an academically trained Dutch-speaking elite. In his opinion, any such project could only be achieved through a university that was entirely and exclusively Dutch-language. A Flemish intelligentsia would (1) gradually reach a point where it would outstrip Flanders´ Frenchified bourgeois elite; (2) contribute to making Dutch a respected language of science and culture; and (3) play an indispensable role in Dutchifying and improving the quality of education in Flanders.
