Jan-Baptist David:
priest, philologist and historian (1801-1866). David was the pivot of the Leuven-based conservative-minded Flamingants and was a member of the so-called Grievances Commission – a government commission set up in 1856 to inquire into Flemish linguistic grievances. The David Foundation, a Catholic-Flamingant cultural association established in 1875, was named after him.
