Answer

Vermeylen´s brand of Flamingantism was pluralistic, emancipatory and Social-Democratic. For him, the Flemish people was a real community – a group of people bound together in the course of history particularly as a result of sharing a common language; a community open towards other peoples and cultures; a community that interpreted the linguistic conflict as being part of a wider class conflict; a community prepared to rebel against laws, state institutions and party politics; a community fully embracing the principle of individual emancipation; and a community opting resolutely for self-government.
