Frans van Cauwelaert:
Cauwelaert, Frans van (Onze-Lieve-Vrouw Lombeek 1880 – Antwerp 1961). Lawyer, doctor in philosophy, from 1910 Catholic MP and the most influential Catholic Flamingant of his generation. Famed leader and orator of the Flemish Catholic student movement and leader of the Catholic Flamingant group in Parliament. After the First World War van Cauwelaert became the leading figure of the Flemish Movement, mapping out a programme of language legislation – the so-called Minimum Programme – which was supported by a majority of Flemish militants.
