territoriality principle

The language >communities in Belgium are based on this principle, which means that wherever you live determines the language you are to use in public and with the administration. So it doesn’t matter who your parents are, which language you speak at home or where you come from, as the language borders are a territory issue.

Belgium is a trilingual country, but it consists of monolingual areas. Brussels and the facility >municipalities are the only exceptions, as two languages can be used.
