Answer

Tatiana Silva’s parents are originally from Cape Verde [republic off the coast of West Africa]. She is Belgian herself and was born in Belgium, but she feels strongly connected with Cape Verde and she speaks both Portuguese and Creole. She says she feels ‘Belgian’, but then she corrects herself, and says she is: European and also Cape Verdean.

Sandra Joine has Rwandan and Congolese blood, but she declares herself to be really Belgian. (Probably, she feels that a lot of autochtonous Belgians don’t see her as a ‘real’ Belgian because she is of foreign descent.) Different from Tatiana Silva, she stresses her being Belgian in the first place.

When they are together, the ladies speak French, but when they address the reporter, they easily switch to Dutch.
