Dementia: Causes, Treatments and Research (Neuroscience) MSc

Education about dementia is a leading priority of the Dementia Reserach Centre. Our flagship programme is the UCL MSc in Dementia (Neuroscience), directed from the Dementia Research Centre and delivered by a team of clinicians and scientists who are international leaders in the field. This MSc course brings the latest bench-top research findings to the bedside, develops and integrates skills in the disease biology, clinical diagnosis and management of dementia, and equips students for future careers as specialist dementia scientists and clinicians. More information about the course is available here.

Working at the Dementia Research Centre (DRC)

The DRC is part of the Department of Neurodegenerative Diseases at the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology. We are a large, multidisciplinary team of clinicians, scientists, and support staff who are working together to identify and understand the disease processes that cause dementia, the factors that influence these disease processes, ways to improve diagnosis and treatments, and how best to support people with dementia and their families. Our research is closely integrated with the NHS Cognitive Disorders Service we run at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.

Student experiences

Project teams within the DRC have hosted students students from the In2scienceUK programme for the last two years. In2scienceUK is an award winning charity which empowers young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve their potential and progress to science, technology, engineering, maths (STEM) and research careers. They do this through high quality work placements and careers guidance in order to support the innovators and pioneers of the future and allow them to discover their inner coder, data scientist or biomedical researcher. In2scienceUK exists to tackle the national challenge of educational inequality and the STEM shortage by providing young people from low-income backgrounds with the skills, placement opportunities and confidence to successfully progress to exciting STEM degrees and careers.
