Handling objects

Petrie objects are used for teaching off-campus with school students, who benefit from the exciting interaction, as well as in hospitals, which can prove beneficial to patients.

In both scenarios, the session leader has to see the objects are safe, whilst ensuring the participants are relaxed and above all, enjoying the object.

Passing the objects around in a foam lined box provides a securer cushion, but also encourages younger handlers to think of it as 'their museum' and to keep 'their' object safe.

Pointing out particular points of interest on an object, such as a manufacturing mark or decoration on the reverse, can help guide the handling. 3D handling provides a completely new platform for interaction, with details explored in a way a static display cannot offer. Having 3D objects on tablets or online means schools can develop their own sessions with digital object handling.
