The pyramid and ruins of the temple complex of Amenemhet III were of great interest to Petrie. In the 1888-9 season he managed to tunnel into the pyramid and explored the internal passages and chambers.

In the Roman burials, Petrie found mummies decorated with remarkable cartonnage and gilt mummy head covers and footcovers, such as this 3D object. Name tags found on some of the bodies give us important information about some of the people living in this area.
