Eye amulet

This moulded faience amulet is the protective 'wedjet' eye. If you zoom in on the edges of the eye you can see the elongated line at the end of the eye and markings below; it resembles the eye of the falcon-headed god, Horus.

By turning the amulet fully the dual side decoration becomes clue. Either end of the eye is pierced through the top for suspension. Because of its importance for protection, 'wedjet' eye amulets were worn in daily life as well as placed on mummies.
