Comb

The carved head on this double-sided ivory comb is a very early example of a representation of a human face from ancient Egypt. It is interesting that it is found on an object which could have been placed in the hair and thus, near the face, but we do not know whether it also had a deeper meaning to the ancient Egyptians.

If you turn the object around, you can see the decoration on both sides of comb: holes have been drilled for the eyes and beaded necklace, and the eyebrows are carved.
