Artist's trial piece

This limestone trial piece was found in a sculptor’s workshop at Amarna. Despite the damage, we can see on one side a highly skilled carving of the face of a man wearing a shoulder-length wig.

On the other side, we can see more experimental efforts, including the ovoid head of a possible Amarna princess and several attempts to master eyes and lips. The broken fragments have been repaired in modern times and the piece is mounted in a modern base, which has been digitally removed from the 3D model.
