Support dementia research by playing Sea Hero Quest

Download Sea Hero Quest now

Sea Hero Quest is a new multi-platform mobile game designed to help advance the understanding of spatial navigation, and understand one of the first symptoms of dementia.

Dr Hugo Spiers, a neuroscientist at UCL, has been working with the game's creators Deutsche Telekom and collaborators at the University of East Anglia, Alzheimer's Research UK and gaming experts Glitchers, to create a game to speed up the way that some dementia research is done. The more that people play the game, the more data is created which can then be used by Dr Spiers and his team to study how people navigate space. This will help shed light on how we use our brain to orientate ourselves and aid dementia research.

Dementia can affect anyone. UCL is the pre-eminent hub for neuroscience research and care in Europe, and no one is better placed to tackle dementia than we are. We have both the ambition and ability to meet the challenge of this most pressing global public health problem. UCL can lay claim to world-leading expertise across the spectrum of research, from genetics to evidence-based treatments and support for patients and carers.

Retailers come together to support UCL Dementia Research

UCL is currently fundraising for a new Dementia Research Institute. Since October 2015, UCL has been working with a number of major retailers in the UK including Asda, Iceland, Morrisons, Waitrose, WHSmiths, Booths, Poundland, Farm Foods and HSS Hire.

Between them, these retailers have pledged millions of pounds, raised from England's new carrier bag charge, to create a new research institute that will bring together the best scientific minds in the world to find the cause and discover a cure for dementia.

You, too, can make a difference to the lives of people with dementia and their families, by supporting the creation of the new UCL Dementia Research Institute:
