Steer Prize

Founded in 1944 by the Steer Memorial Committee as a memorial to Mr P. Wilson Steer, O.M., Assistant Professor at the Slade School, 1899-1930

  1. The Steer Prize may be awarded from time to time.

  2. The Prize is awarded by the Council on the recommendation of the Slade Professor of Fine Art.

  3. The Prize is awarded for outstanding performances in painting.

  4. The value of the Prize is determined by the Council on the recommendation of the Slade Professor of Fine Art. Prizes take the form of cash, books, instruments, or materials, as recommended by the Slade Professor of Fine Art.

  5. A candidate must be a student in the Slade School of Fine Art at the time of competing for the Prize.

  6. No application is necessary.

  7. The qualifications of candidates are considered by the Slade Professor of Fine Art.

  8. The awards are announced in November.

  9. Awards are subject to the provisions of the General Regulations.
