Malaysian Night 2023: HIKAYAT
Malaysian Night is an annual theatre event hosted by Malaysian Societies across the United Kingdom and Ireland.
This year, our play HIKAYAT which directly translates to "tales" in English, will delve into the folklore of our country, as stories are witnessed and told by the founder of the land, Parameswara and his companion, Sang Kancil the mousedeer. Filled with action, tragedy, comedy and romance, the show is based on the journey of Hang Tuah and Sultan Mahmud Shah as they pursue the Princess of Mount Ledang's hand in marriage. Along this journey, quarrels between sisters emerge, disputes between friends and lovers come about, and sacrifices are made. Will the king be able to woo the princess? Will disputes between brothers and sisters be resolved? How do we grapple with the stories we tell each other? Join the journey to witness how everything unravels.
