Papyrus for the People launch event and Stone Draggers (2018) performance

Performance
 |
19th Apr 2018
18:00  - 21:00
The Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology, Univeristy College London, Malet Place, London, WC1E 6BT

Join us for the launch of our new showcases housing the papyrus collection offering opportunities to present new and changing exhibitions. The first reveals more about the role of women in ancient Egypt and their role outside the home.

During the evening, there is also a chance to see at 6.30pm and repeated at 8pm Stone Draggers (2018) a new performance by artist Laura Wilson commissioned by the Petrie Museum. Since September 2017, Wilson has been working with the museum curators, paper conservators and language specialists working on Papyrus for the People, an Arts Council funded project to make translations of ancient texts accessible and understandable to a wide audience for the first time. Wilson's new performance presented at Bloomsbury Theatre is inspired by these texts, many of which describe labour, craft people and every day human interaction.
