Museum Hire

Interested in hiring one of our museums for your next event or filming? Then you have come to the right page!

Our wonderfully unique museums are available to hire for your event. Whether it is a drinks reception, lecture, film screening, photo shoot or filming, our welcoming and knowledgable staff are here to ensure your event runs smoothly and has the wow factor to match our amazing collections.

To enquire about hiring a museum please contact museums@ucl.ac.uk and include information about your event/s, your prefered date/s and time/s, attendee numbers and whether you require catering.

If you are a UCL staff member enquirying regarding a UCL event then please include that in your email.

Hires are charged by the hour (minimum 2 hour hire including event/filming/catering set up) plus venue staffing fees (and catering/AV staff if required), additional AV/tech equipment hire (if required) and additional filming permission fees if required. Catering is supplied by UCL's in house caterers Gather & Gather.

If your event is ticketed then UCL Ticketing would provide this service with a 7%+VAT commission fee applied.

Availablity: Each museum has its own public opening times and teaching schedule which varies from day to day (see below for guidance of each venues availability) although as standard all UCL museums do not open on Sundays, bank holidays or UCL college closure days.


 

Grant Museum of Zoology (max capacity 65 people standing)

Capacities:

  • 65 people standing
  • 45 seated with performance area/screen area

We are able to serve a selection of cold drinks (including alcohol licence) and cold canapes and food in the Grant Museum (all catering must be ordered via our in house suppliers)

Previous events hosted in the Grant include a 70th birthday party, film screenings, still life drawing classes, yoga sessions, spoken word events, fashion photo shoots and wedding celebrations (UCL currently does not hold a premises licence for weddings or civil partnerships).

The museum is home to a wide variety of species (including a few extinct ones) as well as our Instagram famous Micrarium and makes a wonderful backdrop for photo shoots, interviews or filming.

Accessibility - The Grant has step free access from street level.

AV - the museum has an inbuilt sound system for playing background music and was previously an orchestra rehearsal room so has excellent accoustics for singing and microphone free public speaking. No other AV is provided so requests for projectors and screens shold be made on request and will be charged at an additional fee.

Availability: Best availability for booking the Grant Museum is Monday - Saturday evenings.

It is unavailable Tuesday - Friday 13:00 - 17:00 and Saturday 11:00 - 17:00 as it is open to the public and all day Monday and Tuesday - Friday 09:00 - 13:00 the museum is used for private teaching.

Full or half day filming can be potentially accomodated with enough notice and subject to UCL teaching schedules.

Petrie Museum of Egyptian and Sudanese Archaeology (max capacity 35 people standing)

Capacities:

  • 35 people standing
  • 25 seated for film screening.

We are able to serve a selection of cold drinks (including alcohol licence) and cold canapes in the Petrie Museum (all catering must be ordered via our in house suppliers)

Previous events hosted in the Petrie include film screening, spoken word events and fashion photo shoots.

Accessibility - The Petrie is located on the 1st floor whic can be accessed by the next door library lift. 

AV - The museum has an inbuilt projector, screen and speakers which is connected to a laptop which is used for teaching purposes. There is an additional fee for hiring these and it is the hirers responsibility to ensure their laptop/cables are compatible. There is no other in house AV available.

Availability: Best availability for booking the Petrie Museum is Monday - Saturday evenings.

It is unavailable Tuesday - Friday 13:00 - 17:00 and Saturday 11:00 - 17:00 as it is open to the public and all day Monday and Tuesday - Friday 09:00 - 13:00 the museum is used for private teaching.

Full or half day filming can be potentially accomodated with enough notice and subject to UCL teaching schedules.

Object Based Learning Lab aka OBLL (max capacity 100 people standing)

Capacities:

  • 100 people standing
  • 80 people seated lecture style with no tables.
  • 45 seated around tables teaching style - with no objects
  • 30 seated around tables teaching style - with objects.

We are unable to allow catering (including drinks) in the OBLL Museum, but the museums enterance is located within the iconic UCL Cloisters (a public area) where catering (ordered from our in house suppliers) can be served.

Previous events hosted in the OBLL include high profile interview filming, film screenings and spoken word events.

Accessibility - the OBLL has step free access from street level but is located in the centre of the Bloomsbury campus so there is no nearby parking.

AV - The OBLL Museum has state of the art screens and speakers which are connected to a laptop which is used for teaching purposes. There is an additional fee for hiring these and it is the hirers responsibility to ensure their laptop/cables are compatible. There is no other in house AV available.

Availability: Best availability for booking the OBLL is Monday - Friday evenings and Saturday day times and evenings.

This museum is a dedicated teaching space and therefore is usually unavailable Monday - Friday 09:00 - 17:00.

Full or half day filming can be potentially accomodated with enough notice and subject to UCL teaching schedules.

 

Art Museum (max capacity 30 people)

  • 30 standing
  • 15 seated 

We are unable to allow catering (including drinks) in the Art Museum, but the museums enterance is located within the iconic UCL Cloisters (a public area) where catering (ordered from our in house suppliers) can be served.

There is no AV in this museum space

Availability: Best availability for booking the Art Museum during UCL term time is Monday - Friday evenings and Saturday day times and evenings. For hire requests outside of UCL term time please provide dates and times at point of enquiry.

It is unavailable Wednesday - Friday 13:00 - 17:00 during UCL term times as it is open to the public and all day Monday - Friday 09:00 - 13:00 the museum is used for private teaching.

Full or half day filming can be potentially accomodated with enough notice and subject to UCL teaching schedules.

Pathology Museum

The Pathology Museum is a private teaching museum located in the Royal Free hospital in North London.

Events have included private tours and filming, including being featured in television programmes such as BBC's Who Do You Think You Are?

For a sneak peek of the museum then visit here to watch the BBC feature which includes the sword swallower’s oesophagus and a plaster cast of a hand belonging to a man that had acromegaly and was 8ft 9in (2.6m) tall.

Catering is not allowed in this museum.

Availability: The Pathology Museum is a private teaching museum and is not open to the public, please provide dates and times at point of enquiry.

Filming/Photography: Due to the nature of the collection, a full summary of the purpose of the filming/photography must be provided at the point of enquiry. UCL reserve the right to refuse filming/photography.
