Throughout history, have some species been more associated with manliness or femininity? It’s been long thought that cats have been associated with females and the feminine, while dogs — "man's best friend" — have been thought of as male, and masculine. However, there is growing movement on men shrugging off shrugging of the stereotype that ‘cats are for girls; and flaunting their affinity for kitties.

But how does our relationship with pets such as cats and dogs relate to our gender identity and gender stereotypes?
