Community Cinema at UCL East - Monk in Pieces
Join us for a free screening of the documentary exploring the life and work of the composer, performer, and interdisciplinary artist.
Meredith Monk – composer, performer, and interdisciplinary artist – is one of the great
artistic pioneers of our time, yet her profound cultural influence is largely unrecognized. With Monk’s music at its centre, and featuring interviews with Björk and David Byrne, Monk in Pieces (directed by UCL alum Billy Shebar) is a mosaic that mirrors the structure of Monk’s own work and illuminates her wildly original vocabulary of sound and imagery.
- Doors: 6pm
- Film starts: 6:15pm
- Runtime: 94 minutes
It can be hard to pinpoint why, or even how, Billy Shebar’s “Monk in Pieces” is so much better and more involving than the average documentary about the life of an artist.
A fragmentary but highly engaging documentary portrait of Meredith Monk, trailblazing icon of New York City's experimental arts and music scene.
