My research interests are:

  • The acute and residual effects of cannabis use on cognitive functioning; are there any long-term problems as a result of heavy cannabis use- or are the relationships reported all due to confounding factors?
  • Does adolescence represent a sensitive period for the potentially harmful effects cannabis use? Is cannabis use more damaging to adolescent users?
  • Why do adolescents have higher rates of drug use, particularly cannabis; and why do adolescents appear to be more susceptible to transitioning from recreational cannabis use to dependence and other cannabis-related problems?
  • How can we identify and promote potentially safer cannabis use practices, within a harm reduction framework?

Current projects:

1. Associations of intellectual and educational performance with adolescent cannabis use, analysis of longitudinal data from the ALSPAC cohort

2. The effects of acute THC and CBD on memory, psychotic-like symptoms, reflective impulsivity and enjoyment of music: an fMRI study

3. The effects of acute THC on impulsivity and reward sensitivity in young adult regular cannabis users, the influence of age and age of cannabis use onset
