Cortexlab

We aim to understand how populations of neurons combine sensory and internal signals to guide action.

Pyramidal neurons in the visual cortex

To understand the code used by large populations of neurons, we use a combination of experiment and computational analysis. We work mostly in the mouse brain, with techniques such as neuromics, high-count electrodes (Neuropixels), optogenetics, advanced multiphoton imaging, behavioral conditioning, and virtual reality simulation.

Our work is funded by the Wellcome Trust, the Simons Foundation, the European Research Council and the UK's Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council.

People

The lab is a joint effort of Matteo Carandini and Kenneth Harris. It involves a diverse team with expertise ranging from biology and psychology to mathematics and physics.

Positions

Our lab offers a friendly and multidisciplinary environment. If you would like to join us, please contact us even if we haven't advertised a position.
