The latest edition of the Constitution Unit’s regular constitutional review, Monitor, is now available. Published three times a year, Monitor provides a unique round-up and analysis of constitutional developments over the preceding four months.
Monitor 88 is available both online and as a downloadable PDF. You can use the online version to find and share the stories that interest you the most or, if you would prefer, you can read and print the PDF version.
Among much else, this edition of Monitor covers:
- Concerns over parliamentary scrutiny
- The bill to remove hereditary peers
- The new Modernisation Committee
- New select committee membership
- The Electoral Commission’s assessment of the last general election
- Gender quotas and debates about local election voting systems in Wales
- Changes to rules on voter ID and political finance
- Ethics and standards in public life
- Changes to the Crown Estate
- The Attorney General’s lecture on the rule of law
- The new Council of Nations and Regions
- Prime Minister’s Questions in France
You can also find Monitor’s lead story by Alan Renwick and Meg Russell on The Constitution Unit Blog. It emphasises that while the new government has taken some notable steps forward, much remains to be done and many opportunities for constitutional ‘quick wins’ have not yet been taken.
