Akash Paun

Akash is a Senior Fellow of the Institute for Government (IFG). He leads the Institute's devolution programme, with a current focus on the impact of Brexit on the Union and relations between the four nations of the UK. He has previously carried out research on subjects including coalition and minority government, civil service accountability, and the role of parliamentary select committees.

Akash's recent publications include No Deal Brexit and the Union (October 2019, IFG), Has Devolution Worked? The first twenty years (July 2019, IFG/Joseph Rowntree Reform Trust), and Governing England: English Identity and Institutions in a Changing United Kingdom (December 2018, Oxford University Press/British Academy).

Akash is a regular commentator in the media on constitutional matters and has appeared as an expert witness before parliamentary committees at Westminster, Edinburgh and Cardiff.

Prior to joining the Institute for Government, Akash was a researcher for four years here at the Constitution Unit, where he worked on projects including the Devolution Monitoring Programme and the Nuffield-funded Governance of Parliament project.

Akash has also worked at the British Academy and London School of Economics, and he is an Associate of the Centre on Constitutional Change at Edinburgh University.
