Professor Federica Sarro elected as Chair of the Technical Community on Software Engineering (TCSE)

7 February 2025

Congratulations to Professor Federica Sarro, who has been elected as Chair of the Technical Community on Software Engineering (TCSE) of the IEEE Computer Society.

Prof Federica Sarro

Professor Sarro has become the first Italian president and the first president in England and Europe to hold the position of Chair of the Technical Community on Software Engineering (TCSE) of the IEEE Computer Society. This is impressive, as since the TCSE was founded, it has only had presidents in America, Canada and Australia.

On accepting the position, Professor Federica Sarro said, “It’s a great honour to be elected as Chair of the IEEE CS TCSE by the international software engineering community. I take on this journey with great excitement and commitment to serve this community in the best way.

During my term, I aim to enable further the intellectual and personal growth of each one of its members, especially early career researchers who are vital to the future of the field. Besides, I plan to prioritise expanding the support that IEEE TCSE provides to SE events,  increasing the synergy with industry, making in-person conference participation more environmentally friendly, and continuously fostering an inclusive and diverse environment.”

The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) is globally the most important organisation in the field of electrical and electronic engineering and information technology.

Over 460 thousand researchers and professionals from over 190 countries adhere to the IEEE.

The purpose of the IEEE is to promote innovation and technological excellence for the benefit of humanity by encouraging communication and collaboration between the brightest minds in the world.

The IEEE is organised into "Societies", each of which brings together specialists in a specific theme; among these is the Computer Society. The presidency of an IEEE Society is a position of considerable prestige in the scientific fields that the “Society” covers.

The IEEE Computer Society is the world’s largest professional organisation dedicated to computer science, and the Technical Community on Software Engineering (TCSE) is the voice of software engineering within the IEEE and the Computer Society.

TCSE is charged with promoting the dissemination of software engineering and supporting education and training through conferences, workshops, and other professional activities that contribute to the growth and enrichment of academics and professionals in software engineering.
