The Department of Computer Science has grown rapidly in recent years, and we are delighted to have seen new and exciting developments in research, and the introduction of new degree programmes and modules. We have a friendly and supportive environment for staff and students.
For me, it is a great honour to serve as the Head of Department at Computer Science, which holds an unrivalled position internationally. The high calibre of our research was officially recognised in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF), which ranked UCL Economics as the top department in any field in the country in terms of research production and impact. Over 70 members of academic staff were submitted in REF2014, and we received a ‘grade point average’ of 3.57 out of 4. This highlights the seminal contributions the department is making across the full range of its core strengths and associated research groups and interdisciplinary centres.
UCL as a whole is an extremely lively institution which brings some of the world’s leading academics together with outstanding students striving to become future leaders in technology, business and academia. We aim for excellence in both research and teaching and strongly believe that the two should be tightly linked and integrated.
