- Annual Retreat
The 2018 Annual CoMPLEX Retreat took place at Cumberland Lodge, Windsor Great Park at the end of March. As ever, the event featured an exciting range of student, alumni and external speakers and the theme for this year was "The Future of Healthcare".
After an ice breaker which revealed a surprising range of preferred coding languages, the talks began with CoMPLEX alumna Abbygail Jaccard speaking on her work at the UK Health Forum and Joe Standing from ICH on his experience in pharmacometrics. After lunch, it was the turn of CoMPLEX students with a range of interesting talks and posters showcasing the interdisciplinary variety that is the hallmark of CoMPLEX.
The main events of the first day were the talks given by Andrew Reynolds from AstraZeneca and Neil Sebire from Great Ormond Street Hospital on their fascinating visions of how healthcare is changing and how it will look in the future. Their individual perspectives were at times contrasting but always entertaining. Discussion of these topics continued in the after-dinner debate that was expertly chaired by CoMPLEX's Guy Moss.
On the second day the audience was treated to a digital health insider's perspective as Nicolas Jaccard from Visulytix gave his account of running a AI/healthcare startup, and Arturo Araujo showed his brilliant modelling work on bone cancer metastasis. There were further student talks and the awarding of the prizes for best student talk and poster, which were both shared, testament to the superb level of presentation ability on show from CoMPLEX students.
Stay tuned for next year's event!
