Fundraising And Donations
The National Brain Appeal raises funds for The National Hospital and the Institute of Neurology.
Our mission is to improve the outcome and quality of life for everyone with a neurological disorder by funding pioneering research, providing access to the latest technology for expert diagnosis and training tomorrow’s leading clinicians. Your help makes this possible.
Since the charity was founded in 1984, it has raised more than £40million for innovative capital projects including £1.4million towards the creation of the UK’s first comprehensive Centre for Neuromuscular Diseases which opened in December 2009.
Since then, The National Brain Appeal has worked with Professor Michael Hanna and his team to continue to raise funds to support the Centre’s research programmes and to help train the next generation of scientists, nurses, physiotherapists and junior doctors. This includes funding:
- Dedicated PhD projects for young doctors and scientists that have resulted in more accurate genetic diagnosis and improved treatments for some neuromuscular diseases.
- Our physiotherapy team to undertake a research programme to understand the benefit of exercise for patients with neuromuscular diseases.
How you can help
On 27 May 2019, Professor Mike Hanna lead the CNMD Team in running The Vitality London 10,000 race.
This was our eleventh consecutive year participating in the event, and we aim to raise £10,000 in aid of The National Brain Appeal to support training at The Queen Square Centre for Neuromuscular Diseases.
Since we first set ourselves this annual challenge, we're delighted that our supporters have helped to raise over £140,000 for the Centre.
We do hope you will be able to support us: any donation, no matter how small, will be gratefully received and will help make a very real difference.
You can click here to make a donation via the CNMD team's JustGiving page.
Thanks to the generous support of individuals, grant-making trusts and companies, the research projects and improvements in treatment at the CNMD have been made possible. It’s no exaggeration to say that without this incredible support, many advances simply would not have happened.
