Prof. Franco Cacialli

Prof. Franco Cacialli

Franco works on organic semiconductors and related nanostructures and is a member of both the London Centre for Nanotechnology and the Department of Physics and Astronomy at UCL. He obtained his PhD from the University of Pisa and later worked in Cambridge on the physics of electroluminescent polymers and related devices. His research has ranged from the set-up of an original chemical vapour deposition method of heavily doped conducting polymers to the study of polymer LEDs and the control of their luminescent properties in optical microcavities. Recent interests include supramolecular architectures for the control of the solid-state properties of organic semiconductors, and high-resolution nanolithography using the scanning near-field optical microscope (SNOM).

Dr. Kunping Guo

Kunping Guo

Kunping is working on surface plasmon-enhanced electroluminescence in OLEDs. He obtained his PhD in 2018 from the Shanghai University under the guidance of Prof. Bin Wei. His PhD included a period of time as a visiting student at UC Davis learning doping gradients in polymer layers from Prof. Adam Moule. He comes to London Centre for Nanotechnology as Newton Fellow to work on  high-performance near-infrared OLEDs. When not in the lab, Kunping enjoys  photography, travelling, listening music, cooking and playing badminton.

He can be found on level 3 of the LCN or contacted using the details below:

Dr. Marcello Righetto

Marcello Righetto

Marcello is working on hybrid and organic materials for energetics applications. He received his PhD in Material Science and Engineering from the University of Padova (Italy) in 2018, with the thesis "Optical Nanostructures for Excitonic Devices". He worked as a Research Assistant in Prof. Collini's MUOS Lab and then joined Prof. Sum's xC Lab as a Research Fellow, in NTU (Singapore) for two years, to work on low dimensional perovskite materials. His current activities involve the fabrication of hybrid perovskite-organic semiconductor nanocomposites. In his free time, Marcello is a runner and bothers other people with economics and politics discussions.

He can be found on level 3 of the LCN or contacted using the details below:

PhD Students

Ioannis Ierides

Ioannis Ierides

Ioannis is working on the characterisation of organic semiconductors for opto-electronic applications. The aim of his PhD project is to develop acceptors and donors with high dielectric constants and apply them to ternary blends, in order to achieve high efficiency solution processed organic photovoltaics. He is also applying electroabsorption spectroscopy to engineer electrode-semiconductor interfaces in perovskite photovoltaics. As part of his PhD he undertakes training as a member of the Centre for Doctoral Training in the Advanced Characterisation of Materials funded by the EPSRC. Prior to his PhD studies Ioannis completed a BSc in Physics and the MRes in Nanomaterials at Imperial College London where he researched solution processed photovoltaics based upon inorganic nanocrystals.

He can be found in room F9 in the Physics and Astronomy Department (UCL) or contacted using the details below:
