Ear, Nose and Throat

The Comprehensive Clinical Trials Unit at UCL (CCTU) contribute to the UCL ENT Clinical Trials Programme, which aims to accelerate the process by which ENT discoveries become practice.

Eyes and Vision

PRIMENT Clinical Trials Unit is also involved in the Laser in Glaucoma and Ocular Hypertension (LiGHT) study.

Sexual Health

PRIMENT Clinical Trials Unit carry out a number of trials investigating sexual health. These range from studies investigating the effectiveness of behavioural interventions in preventing sexually transmitted infections, to a study investigating ways of improving sexual function after gynaecological cancer in women.

The MRC CTU at UCL also conducts a large number of trials relating to HIV prevention, including the PROUD study, which recently showed that pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in the form of a daily pill is a highly effective way of preventing HIV infection in men who have sex with men, reducing the risk of infection for this group by 86%.

Respiratory Diseases

The MRC CTU at UCL conduct a number of trials in respiratory diseases and breathing difficulties.

Trials related to pleural infection (fluid around the lungs): TIME1, TIME2, TIME3, MIST1, MIST2

Trials related to sleep apnoea: PREDICT, MOSAIC

Blood Transfusions

MRC CTU at UCL are currently or have previously conducted a number of studies investigating the safety and effectiveness of blood transfusions.
Trials investigating blood transfusions: GIN, EASTR, TOPPS, PRISM, PPIP, TAPS, HLA-Epitope, TRACT

Overdose Management

The MRC CTU at UCL carried out a pioneering trial investigating whether giving heroin injectors who have recently been released from prison a drug called Naloxone to carry around would stop them dying from an overdose.
