Research

Clinical Psychologists should be able to recognise the value of research to the critical evaluation of practice and demonstrate:

An ability to identify, review and critically appraise a substantial body of research evidence relevant to clinical psychology practice, including a range of research methodologies
An ability to use research and critical appraisal of research to inform practice and to engage in evidence-based practice

Psychologists should also be able to conduct independent research, and hence demonstrate:

An ability to initiate research, identifying research questions
An ability to choose appropriately from a variety of research designs
An ability to understand research ethics and to apply ethical principles in the conduct of research
An understanding of, and ability to use, appropriate qualitative and quantitative approaches to analysis
An ability to report research findings
An ability critically appraise own research.
An ability to identify pathways for dissemination
An understanding of audit procedures and an ability to conduct audit and service evaluations
