In 2025, Brazil hosted the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30), which took place in Belém, Pará. The chosen city provided the world with a unique platform to discuss climate solutions, firmly rooted in the heart of the Amazon.

2024 summits
UCL at COP16 – Biodiversity
21 October – 1 November 2024
Cali, Colombia
CBD COP16 marked the Sixteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity and took place from 21 October – 1 November 2024, in Cali, Colombia.
The meeting united governments, Indigenous leaders, the business community and civil society, to discuss the pressing Biodiversity Crisis and the ways in which we can reverse habitat loss and protect and preserve our planet's ecosystems. Biodiversity plays a crucial role in the way many of our natural systems function, including how these interface with climate. Additionally, a biodiverse planet is vital for food security, the economy and planetary health.
The theme of COP16 was 'Peace with Nature' and during the two weeks UCL colleagues in Cali and beyond had the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions that will shape the future of the biodiversity crisis.

UCL at COP29 – Climate
11 - 22 November 2024
Baku, Azerbaijan
The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change 29th Conference of the Parties otherwise known as COP29, took place in Baku, Azerbaijan on the 11 - 22 November 2024.
Bringing nations from across the world together, COP29 was an important chance for countries to set emissions reduction targets, support nations experiencing loss and damage from the impacts of our changing climate, strengthen action and share progress.
The themes of COP29 included, but were not limited to: finance, investment and trade; children, youth and education; nature and biodiversity; food, agriculture and water and many more critical topics that intersect climate change. UCL colleagues in Baku and in London engaged in critical discussions, panels and events to help promote action that will have a positive impact in addressing the climate crisis.
