Expertise
Global carbon cycle; tropical forests; deforestation; climate change; nature-based solutions; restoration.

"Led the mapping and discovery of the world’s largest tropical peatland in 2017, in the centre of the Congo Basin, which stores 30 billion tonnes of carbon (equivalent to 3 yrs of fossil fuel emissions; Dargie et al. 2017, Nature). Led long-term monitoring from tropical forests, showing they are a globally significant long-term carbon sink; then in 2020 showed that this sink capacity is saturating (Hubau et al. 2020 Nature)."
