Climate Action Unit shortlisted for two Green Business awards

29 March 2023

The UCL unit is a finalist in two categories for the 2023 UK Green Business Awards: 'Consultancy' and 'Behavioural Change Campaign' of the year.

BusinessAwards

These awards, established by BusinessGreen in 2010, aim to showcase and celebrate innovative projects that are leading the transition to a sustainable economy.

Finalist: Consultancy of the year

The CAU entry for  ‘Consultancy of the year’ featured feedback from individuals and organisations the CAU has been working with over the last year, including our newest project partners on the Cohort 2040 project:

The Climate Action Unit team are leaders in providing organisations with cutting-edge insights on how to tackle climate risks, and how to navigate the complex transformations needed to realise the benefits of the green transition. Their approach is highly innovative: drawing on neuroscience & psychology to help reduce polarisation around climate imperatives and to expand the perspectives and abilities of organisations.

The entry also detailed how the Climate Action Unit works: building capacity and skills in other organisations so that they can weave climate action into the fabric of their organisations' practices.

As finalists, the CAU has an opportunity to share its unique methodolgy and the behavioural insights that inform how the team works

Finalist: Behaviour change campaign of the year

The Climate Action Unit's entry to the behaviour change category allowed them to shine a light on one of their most innovative projects this year – The Strategy Room. Currently in its pilot phase, ‘The Strategy Room’ provides an immersive experience where local people get to decide and vote on net-zero policy initiatives in their local area.

The experience draws on creative storytelling and the foundational behavioural insights of the Climate Action Unit to engage participants in meaningful ways. This enables them to imagine, debate and vote on what alternative futures would work best in their local area.

The collection of anonymised voting data allows decision makers in local authorities to develop a nuanced understanding of the level of support low carbon policies have in their area. For example, they are able to discern whether a policy is unpopular because people don’t trust the government to deliver it, or whether it is genuinely disliked.

Winners announced in June

A full list of the finalists in each category is published online. Winners will be announced on Thursday 29th June 2023 at Leonardo Royal London, St Paul's.
