Visiting (Affiliate) Students

Dryden Georgics 1697 edn.jpeg

Visting or Affiliate students are students enrolled in a university outside Britain who study for a year or a term at UCL

The Department of Greek and Latin every year welcomes visiting students (undergraduate and postgraduate) from around the world. Affiliate students contribute to the distinct character of our Department. The department has a wide range of courses in Greek, Latin, and ancient Middle Eastern studies, both in the original language and in translation. All courses are available to affiliate students.

Students from European countries usually apply through our many Erasmus/Socrates links and are usually interested primarily in courses in Classics. We currently have Erasmus agreements with universities in Austria (Innsbruck), Cyprus (Nicosia), France (Paris I Sorbonne; Strasbourg), Germany (Heidelberg), Greece (Thessaloniki), Hungary (Eötvös Loránd, Budapest), Italy (Bologna; Pisa SNS; Siena; Turin), Spain (Salamanca; Valencia), and Switzerland (Geneva).

Students from elsewhere in the world are often primarily interested in the ancient world and its reception, but many enrol in individual courses out of interest.

For most of our courses in translation no prior experience in the study of the Greek and Roman worlds is necessary, but we are happy to advise. If you have any queries, please contact the the Affiliate Tutor for Greek & Latin, Dr Fiachra Mac Góráin.
