UCL Historical Linguistics Network

The UCL Historical Linguistics Network aims to bring together researchers from across the university working on linguistic topics, promoting inter-departmental contact and collaboration. Five seminars will be held during the first two terms of 2018-19 on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, with a mix of papers from PhD students and postdocs from across UCL, and external invited speakers; a final schedule will be posted at the end of August.

UCL Historical Linguistics Network is supported by the Doctoral School Researcher Network/Academic Societies fund, and the Department of Greek and Latin.

Call for Papers

UCL Historical Linguistics Network invites PhD students and Early Career Researchers from any UCL department to send in abstracts for the seminar series for the next academic year.

This seminar series will give PhD students and Early Career Researchers at UCL the opportunity to present their research to linguists in other departments and to receive feedback on their work. Papers on any language and any topic broadly related to historical linguistics (sociolinguistics and language change, histories of bilingualism and language contact, historical corpus linguistics, historical phonology or morphology, etc.), including primarily theoretical or methodological papers, are welcome. Papers will be around 30 minutes, followed by time for questions and discussion. After the seminars, there will be informal drinks.

Please send abstracts of up to 300 words to the convenor, Katharine Shields, by 5pm 3rd August 2018, along with any restrictions on the date - seminars will be held on Tuesdays or Thursdays at 4pm during the first two terms.
