Study Abroad

There are plenty of opportunities for PhD students to spend a term in a university abroad. The Department encourages students to think about this.

Erasmus

Note: you will need to allow plenty of time to set up a visit.

Erasmus

All students can visit one of our partner Universities in the European Erasmus exchange programme. We currently have Erasmus agreements with universities in Cyprus (Nicosia), France (Paris IV; Strasbourg), Germany (Heidelberg; Würzburg), Greece (Thessaloniki), Hungary (EOTVOS, Budapest), Italy (Bologna; Parma; Siena), Spain (Salamanca; Valencia), and Switzerland (Geneva). Our Erasmus tutor Dr Fiachra Mac Góráin will be happy to advise.

UCL-Yale Exchange

UCL and Yale have a collaborative relationship, which includes the facilitation of exchange visits for PhD students. Please contact the UCL Yale office for details.

DAAD

The Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (German Academic Exchange Service) offers a range of grants to research students to visit German universities. Deadlines are in October and April.

See their website for details.

Pisa

We have an exchange programme with the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa which is open to PhD students. Please see the Graduate Tutor for details.

Others

The Department will help PhD students who wish to make their own arrangements to work with scholars at universities abroad. Please bear in mind that if no formal exchange agreement exists, you may be liable to pay fees at the foreign institution.
