Research Festival: Celebrating CEGE Department's Innovation

We are excited to announce the Research Festival, an extraordinary event where we celebrate the diverse and innovative research conducted within the UCL CEGE department.

Welcome to the Research Festival!

We are excited to announce the Research Festival, an extraordinary event where we celebrate the diverse and innovative research conducted within the UCL CEGE department. This year's festival promises to be a unique blend of academic excellence, knowledge sharing, and networking opportunities. In addition to captivating presentations, we are thrilled to introduce an engaging PhD poster competition that will not only showcase your work but also contribute to replacing outdated posters in the Chadwick Building.

The festival is a platform open to all early-career researchers, including PhD students, post-docs, and lecturers. It is designed to promote the diversity of research within the CEGE department. We encourage presentations on ongoing projects and want to emphasize that your work will not be solely judged on results. Should we receive a large number of submissions, rest assured that we will ensure representation from all sections of our department.

How to participate

To become a part of this exciting event, simply follow these steps:

Submit an Abstract: Send us a concise abstract (maximum 150 words) to Filipa Adzic at f.adzic@ucl.ac.uk. Please format the document title to include your name, current position, and the first 5 words of your title.

For example, "FilipaAdzic_Postdoc_HighresolutionCO2monitoringof.doc".

Deadlines

  •    All abstracts, including poster abstracts, must be submitted by the end of the day on 22nd October 2023.
  •    Decisions on acceptance will be communicated shortly after.
  •    Final presentations must be submitted by 15th November 2023.

Presentation Guidelines

  • Academics and researchers will be allotted 7 minutes for their presentations, followed by 3 minutes for questions.
  • PhD students will have 3 minutes for an "elevator pitch" presentation with a maximum of 3 slides allowed.
  • PhD posters will be displayed in G04, and no formal presentation is required. Depending on the number of abstracts received, presentation length rules might be updated.

Awards

We believe in recognizing excellence, and the Research Festival will bestow awards in three categories:

  • Best PhD Student Poster (£100)
  • Best PhD Student Presentation (£50)
  • Best Researcher Presentation (£50)

Bonus points will be awarded for engaging with the audience during your presentation. While there are no awards for academics, we highly encourage new lecturers to participate and introduce their research to the wider department. All awards will be in the form of Amazon vouchers.

Join us for the afterparty

Following the presentations and awards ceremony, we invite you to join us for a social gathering in Chadwick G04. It's an excellent opportunity to connect with fellow researchers and unwind after a day filled with intellectual discussions.

Don't miss the chance to be a part of the Research Festival and contribute to the vibrant research community within the CEGE department. We look forward to celebrating your work and sharing in the excitement of discovery. See you on the 22nd of November!
