Will Rogers-Tizard (MEng Civil and Environmental Engineering, 2014), has won the 2021 Institution of Structural Engineers Young Engineering Professional of the Year Award.  This prestigious award sets contestants out as ‘ones to watch’ within the design and construction industries, and as engineers who are driving the profession forward with their work.

Will currently works for Price Myers and said of his role ‘I really enjoy the variety in my work. I’ve worked on projects ranging from sculptures, to bridges, to a Satellite Testing Facility and it's great to see something which you have designed being constructed in reality. I also believe that engineers can have a hugely positive influence on the built environment, which we engage with every single day. It’s great to be in a profession which can provide such a strong sense of purpose.’

Of his time at UCL, he said ‘UCL gave me an excellent technical grounding in engineering, but the scenario weeks and group work projects also taught me the teamwork and communications skills which are equally as important for my role as a structural engineer’.
Will also offered the following advice for students interested in Civil Engineering ‘Try to combine anything you find interesting outside-of-work with your degree. If you are interested in sustainability, then there is a huge potential for using civil engineering to create a sustainable built environment. If you like the history of old buildings, then restoration or refurbishment could be for you. An engineering career can take you in many different directions, you just need to try to find out which is best suited for you.’
