Visiting Professor in Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering
27 July 2018
Ziggy Lubkowski, ARUP Associate Director, UKMEA Seismic Skills Leader
Ziggy has been appointed as a Visiting Professor at UCL. He will be supporting learning related to earthquakes resilience and response in Chile, delivering lectures on case studies, supporting the award winning Integrated Design Project and providing a senior mentoring role to staff and students. The collaboration with ARUP follows on from Ziggy's advisory role in UCL's EPICentre group.
He is the Seismic Skills Leader for Arup in UK, Middle East and Africa. He has carried out geotechnical and seismic design, analysis and assessment for a range of structures in the energy, infrastructure, manufacturing and humanitarian sectors. He has acted as the seismic specialist for major projects such as offshore platforms in the Caspian Sea, New Zealand, the Philippines and Russia, major bridges and tunnels in Portugal, Italy, Greece, Turkey and Eastern North America, and numerous seismic hazard studies around the world.
The appointment was via a scheme funded by the Royal Academy of Engineers following the application made by Tiziana Rossetto and Susana Lopez-Querol. The scheme aims to enhance student learning as well as the employability and skills of UK engineering graduates, whilst strengthening external partnerships with industry.
Ziggy said "I would like to use this prestigious opportunity to help grow the next generation of geotechnical earthquake engineers for industry."
